It should have been a match of the SEHA Gazprom League round, but Vardar connivingly won in Skopje against Celje with 35:27 (20:10). The red-black team stays at the top of the SEHA League with 40 points, or 9 more than the 2nd ranked PPD Zagreb.
This match was the last test for Vardar before the Sunday's match against Pick Szeged in the Champions' League. The test was successful, and the shape of our team is going up. It was important to feel the chemistry in the team and to continue the winning series in the SEHA League.
Celje has always been a "hard nut" for Vardar, but this time the guest from Slovenia did not have a single chance. Vardar showed its "long bench" filled with quality players on all positions, who used all given chances.
This is Vardar's 4th victory in all matches against Celje in the SEHA League. Now, we need only one victory to verify the 1st place on the table and defend the trophy on the F4 tournament as leaders.
Everything was decided in the 1st half of the match in Skopje. In the 15th minute, we had a lead of 8:3 and announced atlriumph. We played easily, simply, and precisely. We showed diversity and playfulness. We did not play with the best roster, which was not an obstacle for reaching a 2-digit advantage in the 1st half.
Strahinja Milic was an excellent replacement for Arpad Strebik, who ended the match with 13 saves. Great deal of the rival's "goals" ended in the hands of Milic. Daniel Gjorgjevski got his chance between the goal posts in the last 20 minutes. Janja Vojvodic was the leader in attack, and Martin Popovski also got longer timing.
Our right wing had a 100% efficiency (6/6). In the 2nd half, Celje used several of our missed actions and reduced the result to -7, but we soon paid back with a 2-digit advantage. Celje tried to follow our rhythm, but the winner was already known.
On 27.02 Vardar will play a guest match against PPD Zagreb.
