The current five-time SEHA Gazprom League champion had to put in more effort than expected to score points and fight against the outsider Vojvodina. The home team won 26:23 (11:11) and they remain on the first place of Group A with 15 points.
Both teams lacked some key players, and at some point, Vardar played with four wingers. Timur Dibirov and Ivan Cupic have shown they are capable of playing in the back position when needed. Although Vardar led 10:6 in the 25th minute, it allowed the guest to score four goals in a row and drew 10:10.
The players of Vojvodina looked more motivated and dedicated in the match. They were 1-2 goals behind in almost the whole match and were always a threat to Vardar.
As in many other matches, Vardar made a crucial goal difference in the last 10 minutes. Vojvodina pressed all the time, but when Vardar reached a lead 5 minutes to the end (26:21), it was a strong sign that the home team would win and celebrate their 10th victory against Vojvodina in the SEHA Gazprom League.
Stash Skube scored seven goals and was the best scorer for Vardar, while Dimitar Dimitrioski scored six goals. Stahinja Stankovic scored seven goals for Vojvodina.
In the next round, Vardar will host Motor in the group's derby, a match that will decide which team will be closer to the first position and play directly in the quarterfinals.
Eduard Koksharov – Vardar's coach
"Before the match, we said we had our plans. As you know, we had a tough game yesterday and at the same time we have problems with several injured players. Today we tried to win and rest some of the players, because we have to play another tough game on Saturday. The plan was to win, and we did. I want to congratulate the whole team and my guys on today's win".
Domen Sikoshek Pelko – Vardar's player
"We played two tough games in two days, and as you know, we don't have a big roster. We all gave our best during the whole 60 minutes. I have to admit that luck was on our side at some points, but we fought and won three points, which was our goal tonight".
Boris Rojevic – Vojvodina's coach
"Congratulations to Vardar on the victory. We thought we could achieve better results. We missed several clear chances and small details were crucial to the defeat. We gave 5 balls straight into their hands and they scored easily. We also had a gap in the middle and I think those minor details were crucial tonight. I wish Vardar the best in both, the SEHA and Champions' League this season".
Milosh Grozdanic – Vojvodina's player
"We nervously started the match in the first 5-6 minutes when we missed a couple of chances. However, in the first half we managed to draw. In the second half, we had several misses from clear positions, we did not punish Vardar's faults and allowed them to score in counter attacks. Then, Vardar managed to make a difference and won the match".
