Vardar and PPD Zagreb are "old friends" and despite the matches they play in the regional SEHA Gazprom League, they will also meet within the Champions' League this season. This weekend, the first 1/8 final match will be played in Zagreb and it will be the match of the week.
PPD Zagreb and Vardar have played 10 matches within the European cups. The red-black team won the last 3 out of 4 matches within the Champions' League. Vardar won a total of 4 matches, and Zagreb was 5 times better.
Considering that both teams are "old friends" and they have already played twice this season, there is probably no room for a surprise.
"We always expect something new. It is different when you play only one match. We work and prepare, but we will probably see new stuff from the opponent" – said Roberto Parrondo, Vardar's coach.
The "red-black" team is the favourite in this match considering their placement in the Champions' League group A. Vardar ended up first in the regular part of the SEHA League, and PPD Zagreb is just behind them.
"Naturally, we are under pressure. We want to play the ¼ finals. We cannot afford any mistakes now and we have to play better than Zagreb" – said Parrondo.
The whole team went to Zagreb, except Sergei Gorbok and Vlado Nedanovski. Vuko Borozan is back. Vardar trained in Skopje, went to Zagreb and they will play the match tomorrow night.
