David Pisonero, Vardar's new coach, is one of the first to arrive in Skopje before the start of the new season. The first training session is scheduled for tomorrow when the team will start preparing for the new season and defend 4 important trophies – the 2 national and the SEHA and the EHF title. Pisonero is the 3rd Spanish coach in the red-black team after Raul Gonzalez and Roberto Parrondo.
"I feel very good in Skopje. My first impressions are excellent. I am slowly getting to know the city, and I got very good recommendations from my friends for Skopje as a place to live and work" – said Pisonero.
Although he speaks only English now, the new coach has a serious goal – to repeat what his predecessors did and learn to speak Macedonian. He has already started to learn the language. "The book is my best friend for now. Of course, I will give my best to learn the language as soon as possible. It is especially important for my communication. It's going well so far" – said Pisonero.
He does not mind the heat in Skopje, because it is the same in Spain. He already has favourite Macedonian dishes. He thinks that he will adapt to the new life very soon.
"Even when it's empty, you could feel the good atmosphere in SC Jane Sandanski. The smell of both European titles is all over the arena."
"What Vardar has is really amazing. When I entered the arena, I was very excited. Everything looks different when you step into the court, sit on the bench and look at the result display" – said Pisonero. "You experience handball differently here; everything is dedicated to this sport, which differs compared to Spain."
With 6 new players, he will need time to prepare the team. After several training sessions in Skopje, the team will leave for Trebinje to play a tournament, and at the end of August, they will play the Super Globe in Saudi Arabia.
"It is a good thing that the team kept its roster and the game is on the same level as last season. I think that small changes need to be made and continue in the same direction. For now, this is the team we have. I have also other things to do too, to complete the puzzle" – said Pisonero.
The SEHA League and the EHF League are the main challenges for the red-black team. Besides Nexe, Tatran and Vojvodina, Vardar will share the SEHA League group with two new teams – Motor Zaporozhye and Tatabanya.
"The SEHA League is improving and strengthening from year to year. It is a good basis for the Champions" League. Now, we have new teams like Veszprem, Motor and Tatabanya, which are very good. There are 8 teams that could reach the top. Therefore, every match will be interesting and uncertain" – said Pisonero.
Vardar shares the Champions' League group with Veszprem, Kielce, Meshkov, Motor, Montpellier, Porto and Kiel.
"The Champions' League will be also uncertain. All teams have equal quality. Kielce and Veszprem played the F4 tournament. Kiel is also a great team. All matches will be uncertain and interesting" – said Pisonero.
